Saturday 19th May - Saturday 26th May

Brighton Festival Fringe

Show starts at 7.45pm.

Venue opens at 7.00pm. Collect tickets by 7.30pm.

The Picture of Dorian Gray by John Osborne was adapted from Oscar Wilde's only novel.

A dark and witty parable investigating Victorian hypocrisy and the many manifestations of personal greed, it becomes in Osborne's version, a cocktail of murder, impeccable aphorisms, beauty and fascinating characters, as humour mixes with horror, in an elegant, savage way.

Beautiful Dorian Gray is idolised by painter Basil Hallward, who has captured the young man's looks, in a portrait; Dorian wishes he could always be the way he is the day Basil finishes the picture. Meanwhile, wealthy, influential, Lord Henry Wotton also falls under Dorian's spell and indulges his every whim.

Dorian can have anything he wants and remains seemingly unchanged by the passage of time, but everything has a price; if Dorian can do what he likes to whom he likes, who will pay the price?

A wonderful mix of gothic horror and brilliant writing, the combination of two of our greatest playwrights is as irresistible as it is thrilling!

Directed by Tony Edwards

Brighton Little Theatre traditionally contributes a poetry show to the Brighton Festival Fringe. This year’s show includes a wide variety of poems: ancient and modern, funny and serious, classic and offbeat plus traditional folk songs provided by singers from the Brighton and Hove Soiree Rotary Club (The Loose Cannons).

The poems span over 1000 years and include Anglo Saxon poetry as well as Carol Ann Duffy, Yeats and the Liverpool Poets. Most importantly, the poems and songs are all ones the company like and want to share. The mood ranges from farce to sadness and from barbed wit to bared soul but overall the aim of the show is “fun”.

Using a very loose framework with broad subjects like: Growing up, Adult Imaginary World, Stories, Lyrical poems and Love poetry, we tell of the challenges in childhood, supernatural happenings and heroic rescues. We indulge ourselves with some glorious descriptive poetry and explore all aspects of love from Seduction to Consummation to Aftermath. Mixing beautiful poetry with irreverent songs and the odd rude poem, this is a light hearted show that everyone can enjoy.

At the two shows in Peacock Lane the Rotary Club will be make a collection to raise funds for their many charitable activities.
